3 Instagram changes in October... and one of them is kind of controversial
The October '24 Recap: Here's what you need to know!
First things first: Happy Halloween, friends! If you’re dressing up, I’m going to need to see your costumes in the comments.
I don’t know how on earth we’re standing firmly in the last day of October, but here we are. The weather is changing. The holidays are approaching. And Instagram’s making changes.
Nothing major to report this month, but there are a few updates you’ll want to make note of.
Here’s what’s new on Instagram in October:
“Best Practices” tab added to the Professional Dashboard. Finally, some creator advice straight from the horse’s mouth. It’s organized by type & Instagram plans to add more topics over time.
“Profile Cards.” In the past, you had to DM your friend an individual post and hope they’d navigate to the profile. Now, Profile Cards give you a more visual, customizable, and comprehensive way to share your Instagram profile and connect with friends.
Coming soon: Create custom videos with AI directly in the Instagram app. It’s called Movie Gen and empowers you to create new videos from a text prompt without ever leaving the app. You’ll also be able to build on your own videos.
As always, I’m curious to see when and whether these updates will take off — especially Movie Gen. As one journalist pointed out, the capability feels inherently unsocial taking the “Instagram isn’t real” argument to a whole new level.
What do you think? Sound off in the comments. I’m dying to hear your thoughts.
Until next time!
xx,
Alison
