If you feel like you’re doing everything "by the book" on social media—but still not seeing the results you want—you’re not crazy.
The book is just outdated.

Social media has changed fast over the past few years. But a lot of old advice keeps floating around, getting recycled by people who haven’t touched a real account in ages. (No offense, Gary Vee.)

Today, I’m setting the record straight on 5 social media "rules" you can safely leave behind—and what you should focus on instead.

🛑 5 Social Media Myths You Can Stop Believing

1. "You have to post every single day to stay relevant."

Reality: Posting daily can help, but quality matters way more than quantity now.
Instead: Focus on consistency over frequency. Posting 3–4 strong, engaging pieces per week beats 7 mediocre ones every time.

2. "Long captions don’t work—people don’t read them."

Reality: People scroll fast, yes—but if your story is good, they’ll stick around.
Instead: Write captions that either tell a story, teach something, or spark a conversation. Long captions are fine if they’re valuable (and well-formatted with line breaks!).

3. "Hashtags are everything."

Reality: Hashtags are helpful, but they’re no longer the main discovery tool on Instagram and TikTok. (Search, SEO, and the algorithm itself matter way more.)
Instead: Focus on strong keywords in your captions, profiles, and on-screen text. Treat your post like it needs to rank in a search engine, not just live under a hashtag.

4. "You have to be on every platform to succeed."

Reality: Spreading yourself thin kills creativity—and drains your budget.
Instead: Double down on the 1–2 platforms where your audience actually hangs out and your brand actually shines. Master those, then expand if it makes sense.

5. "More followers = more success."

Reality: Engagement, loyalty, and conversion matter so much more than vanity metrics.
Instead: Focus on building a real community that comments, saves, shares, and buys. 10,000 passive followers won’t pay the bills. 500 engaged ones will.

⚡ The Bottom Line:

Good marketing isn't about following outdated "best practices"—it’s about evolving with what’s actually happening online.
When you adapt faster, you win faster.
